Alain Dupont, MD, PhD, born March 4^th 1954, is full professor and head of the Department of Pharmacology at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, head of the Research Group Clinical Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacy and head of the Department of Clinical Pharmacology and Pharmacotherapy at the University Hospital UZ Brussel, where he also runs a hypertension clinic. He is the president of the hospital formulary council. He was Vice-Dean Research for 4 years (2004-2008) and was Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy from September 2008 till September 2016. He was a member of the Board of Governors of the Council of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel and of the Council of the UZ Brussel.

He has been the founding president and a past member of the Belgian Commission for Reimbursement of Medicines, and he is a member and currently the president of the Belgian Centre for Pharmacotherapeutic Information. He has been a Johnson & Johnson employee (in different leading functions) from November 1991 till February 2000. His research activities focused on hypertension, cardiovascular pharmacology and pharmacotherapy. He received three scientific prizes, was author or co-author of over 180 publications in peer reviewed journals and books, and promotor of several Ph.D. theses.
